Bangkok Riverside Creative District: Warehouse 30 Reviving Wartime Warehouses
Bangkok's riverside recreates its industrial past
Located along the Chao Phraya River, Warehouse 30 was originally a warehouse used by the Japanese during World War II. The authorities preserved these eight connected warehouses and transformed them into a creative space, featuring restaurants, cafes, exhibition venues, art galleries, fashion shops, and antique stores. It serves as a hub for artists, designers, entrepreneurs, and culture enthusiasts. The concept of Warehouse 30 is to bring together creativity, art, and business, providing a space for inspiration, interaction, and showcasing their works.
Though not large, the highlight of Warehouse 30 is the antique store "HORSE UNIT & WOOT WOOT," which perfectly retains the industrial design elements of the old warehouse. The restored wooden floors and exposed steel beams bring back the warehouse's original charm.
Collecting items from both World Wars: A Must-Visit for Antique Lovers
This space is a paradise for antique enthusiasts, reflecting its World War II background. The owner also fits the theme by sourcing numerous items from around the world, including tools, uniforms, everyday goods, and apparel from both World Wars, which are the main selling product in the store. You can find oversized road signs and vintage wooden chairs for sale, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of the pre-war era.
The loft area houses WOOT WOOT, focusing on stationery and boutique items, attracting many young female hipsters, making the two spaces interconnected yet distinct.
Central Post Office transformed into TCDC Creative Design Center
Warehouse 30 also promotes cultural and community engagement. It features shared office spaces and multi-purpose areas for local organizations to collaborate on arts and educational initiatives. Nearby, the Central Post Office is now the new location for Thailand Creative and Design Center (TCDC), attracting many hipsters and artists, thus enhancing the cultural vibe of the area. Numerous unique cafes and restaurants have begun to appear, attracting many young people to check in and take photos. Since Warehouse 30 is a small warehouse complex, it’s only a five-minute walk from the Central Post Office and the large ICONSIAM shopping mall is just across the river, making it a great spot to explore.
The best way to reach Warehouse 30 is to take a boat to N3 Si Phraya, then turn right after disembarking. After exploring Warehouse 30, you can walk about 5 minutes to the Central Post Office and visit TCDC. From there, take a boat to ICONSIAM to continue your journey. For art lovers, visiting RIVERCITY, which regularly hosts various exhibitions, is also a must.
