Benjakitti Forest Park in the heart of Bangkok

Located in the Khlong Toei District in the heart of Bangkok, Benjakitti Forest Park was officially opened as early as 1994. At that time, it covered approximately 20.8 hectares, centered around a rectangular artificial lake with some surrounding landscaping. However, King Rama IX and the Queen Mother aimed to increase green spaces in Bangkok to combat air pollution. In 2006, a 25-year Bangkok Greening Project was initiated, with the expansion of Benjakitti Park as its first task.

The skywalk at Benjakitti Forest Park spans 5 kilometers, visitors can walk and observe the biodiversity within the park. Looking up in the forest park, you can also see the cityscape, creating an interesting contrast.

The Four Interconnected Ponds Become Ecosystem

The park's most attractive feature is undoubtedly the four large ponds converted from a tobacco factory, along with the elevated skywalk facilities above them. Stepping into Benjakitti Park is not just a walk in the park; it's a journey through the ecosystem suspended in the air. The four interconnected ponds absorb 120 million cubic meters of rainwater during the rainy season, which is then purified and used by the residents of Bangkok. The forested area provides fresh air to the city, addressing air quality concerns.

The four ponds have winding corridors for visitors to walk and explore. The entire ecosystem is a step towards Bangkok's greening initiative. The lotus pond serves as a breeding ground for various insects.

Skywalk Witness The Biodiversity

The entire skywalk starts from a forest-like area, leading into the marshland where visitors can witness the biodiversity within the park. Various birds, squirrels, fish, lizards, and even rare birds like owls can be spotted if lucky. All animals roam freely, showcasing the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Various birds can be seen everywhere, making it a great spot for birdwatchers. Giant lizards roam around the park, adding to the experience. Benjakitti Park also has a dog park.

Warehouses Become Recreational Hub

Apart from being a vast forest park, Benjakitti Park is also a recreational hub for the local Thai people. Facilities such as covered football fields, basketball courts, badminton courts converted from the tobacco company's warehouses are nestled in the corners of the park. The children's playground features unique equipment like rope nets, ensuring endless fun for kids.

Water sports facilities are also available for rental during normal days.

To reach Benjakitti Forest Park, you can walk approximately ten minutes from BTS Asok station. It's recommended to visit in the early evening when the pathways are beautifully lit, and the slightly cooler temperatures make strolling along the forest paths more comfortable.
